ENROLLMENT ENDS IN:

Decorating a home on your own can be overwhelming.

IF YOU'RE TIRED OF FEELING LIKE THIS:

“I have Pinterest boards full of inspiration but I don’t know where to start.”

“I’m so indecisive about my decor. I’m afraid of making an expensive mistake.”

“I avoid having people over because I feel ashamed of my house.”

“My house is functional, but blah. I don’t know how to make it feel homey.”

“I’m renting and I feel stuck with my space as is.”

MEET YOUR TEACHER

Hi there! I’m Ingrid Fetell Lee, designer, author, and founder of the School of Joy.

For a long time, I was intimidated by home decor because every space I saw seemed so “perfect.” But I’ve spent the last fifteen years studying how our surroundings influence our well-being, and I have some good news for you: Perfection is not what makes a home feel good. Joy is.

Your idea of a feelgood home will look different than mine, than your neighbors’, than that gorgeous, glossy spread you saw in a magazine. It's unique to you and to your family. That’s why you’re the best person to design your home. And that’s why I created this course — to teach you how to do just that.

“Without question, DaJH is the most thoughtful, intelligent, doable, creatively-inspiring online course experience I’ve ever had. (And I’m a careful buyer.) The quality was impeccable—literally every touch point. I appreciated how the course highlighted a concise, consistent framework for making decisions and how it could work for homes of all sizes.”

— STACY G.

“The course was the most useful of any source of home design and decor I’ve used or referenced. Much more useful than the lengthy and expensive consult I had with a professional interior designer. I know I will keep referring back to the DAJH material as we transform our “new” house into our new home.”

— RENEE HARPER

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What other students have asked before signing up for Design a Home You Love.

I'm not really artistic. Will I be able to do this course?

Yes! When I say that no experience with design, drawing, or color is necessary, I really mean it. One of the most famous designers in the world, Ralph Lauren, built his entire empire without knowing how to draw or sew! What he had was an intuitive understanding of the feeling he wanted to create, and the knowledge of how to use aesthetics to bring his vision to life. In this course, you'll learn to tune into your own intuition, and you'll learn practical approaches for shaping your space so that it cultivates the feelings — and experiences — you want most out of life.

Do I need to buy a lot of new things to see results from this course?

Absolutely not. The inspirational images floating around on the internet can make us feel like the problems we have with our homes can be cured by spending more money. But in reality, it doesn't cost a lot to create a home you love. In fact, I highly recommend you don't buy anything new until you've thoroughly "shopped your home" and discovered what you can repurpose. You may find you don't want to buy anything else at all!

And if you do choose to add to your home, what you'll learn will save you money in the long run by helping you avoid costly mistakes and disappointing impulse purchases, and instead make investments in your home that will continue to bring you joy for years to come.

I live in a rental. Will this be worthwhile for me?

Not only will this program be worthwhile, but I actually created it with specific attention to people who are renting or who don't want to renovate! While traditional design programs emphasize changes to flooring and finishes that are impossible for renters, Design a Home You Love shows you how to create a beautiful space right where you are. In this course, you'll learn cost-effective ways to draw attention to aspects of the space you love, and shift focus away from the ones you don't. You may even find ways to turn your home's most challenging features into its best assets.

There's so much free design advice on the internet. Why do I need this?

Ah, the internet! A place of endless inspiration, where the answer to any design question is just a Google away.

Design blogs and magazines will give you information, but what they can't give you is an end-to-end process that helps you conquer indecision and feel confident that you can tackle any design challenge that comes your way. So while I'm still a huge fan of the internet, and highly recommend you use it as a resource alongside the course, it doesn't take the place of what you'll find inside Design a Home You Love.

How is this different from what's in your book, JOYFUL?

Think of them as close cousins who love to hang out and bring out the best in each other.

In JOYFUL, I shared my discovery of the aesthetics of joy, a framework that connects our environment with our emotions, and shared ideas for creating more joy in our surroundings. Since then, I've deepened my research on the ways that we can harness our intuition to create more joy in our homes.

Design a Home You Love includes new frameworks like the 5-Point Space Breakdown and the Designer's Toolkit, a full-color guide to using the aesthetics of joy in design, and lessons on color that I couldn't include in the book. It also includes 19 new downloadable tools and worksheets.

Can I use this course to transform another space, like an office or classroom?

Yes! The methods you'll learn in Design a Home You Love can be applied to any space, public or private. In fact, the winner of last year's Joyful Home Giveaway (a little celebratory competition we host just for our students and alumni) is a teacher who transformed her speech therapy classroom into a haven for her students. She says "It's no stretch of the imagination to say that the room has facilitated bonding with both my students and my coworkers, which is important not only for school morale but also for speech therapy outcomes. My room has been a calm, safe place for students---it has officially become cool to come to speech therapy, ha! I have tons of kids every day asking to come to my room."

Design a Home You Love isn't just a home decor course. It's a set of tools that will help you see the potential in any space.

STILL THINKING ABOUT IT?

You should give Design a Home You Love a 14-day risk-free trial if...

You're tired of waiting for the perfect house to start living well at home.

You tear photos out of design magazines and fantasize about decorating your dream house, but you live with a patchwork of hand-me-down furnishings because you don't want to invest time and money into a white-walled rental. In the meantime, your life is happening now. Your home can make that life feel rich and full — a canvas for beautiful memories — or it can just be a roof over your head. What would happen if you embraced the moment and created a beautiful life right where you are?

Your style isn't like everyone else's.

You've always known you have a unique aesthetic, but sometimes you're not 100% comfortable expressing it. In a world where neutral minimalism is trendy, maybe you've been made to feel a bit "over-the-top." What would happen if you felt fully confident in your style and ready to share it with the world?

In Design a Home You Love, I'll never tell you to tone it down or stifle your spirit to fit a certain mold. Instead, I give you tools to understand and articulate your own style, so you can design the joyful space that only you know how to create. After all, you're one of a kind — your home should be too.

You want decorating to actually be fun again.

Let's face it: when you're worried about making costly mistakes, or being stuck with something you don't love, decorating is the opposite of fun. It's easy to think that maybe you're not cut out for it — that maybe you don't have the "eye" for design. But when you have the tools to connect with your intuition and make choices that you know are right for you, it sets you free to follow your heart and yes, actually have fun with your decor. What would happen if you trusted your instincts and felt free to make design decisions without fear or worry?
